Firefly, bilimkurgu türünü western ile harmanlamış bir dizidir. Konusuna
gelirsek, 2500'lü yıllarda Dünya nüfusunun iyice artması ve kaynakların
tükenmesi sonucu insanların başka gezegenlere göçmesi başlıyor. Merkez
gezegenlere yerleşenler medeniyeti devam etttiriyor ve Alliance (Abd
& Çin ortak birliği) kuruyor. Diğerleri ise çevre gezegenlere ve
aylara yerleşerek bağımsızlıklarını ilan ediyor. Alliance bu
bağımsızları kendine katmak için savaş başlatıyor. Dizinin pilot bölümü
olan Serenity bölümü, bu savaşla devam ediyor.
Savaş sonrası Mal (Kaptan Malcolm Reynolds), diziyede adını veren Firefly model bir uzay gemisi kaçırıp kaçakçılık işine giriyor.
2005 yılında dizinin devamı niteliğinde Serenity adlı filmi yayınlanmıştır.
